DVD-R burning slower than specified
Hi. I have a Samsung DVD +/- RW burner (IDE version) that can burn DVD-R at maximum speed of 16X and I use RiData DVD-R 8X media. Just to be safe, I set the maximum burning speed to 4x or 6x from my DVD burning software and I burn files (not making a DVD movie or or any of the multimedia stuff). I see it starts to burn at my specified speed for few seconds then I usually see it burning at little above 1X speed (usually between 1X and 1.4X).
Why wouldn't it burn at the rate that I specified when the maximum speed it should be able to burn is whole lot faster than what I set in the software?
What are some of the factors that might limit the burning speed?
Only thing I can think of is if my processor is really slow and my hard drive's data transfer rate is really slow... but I don't think any of these are in my case.. or are they?
Below is the spec of my PC just in case my system isn't up to date enough to handle higher speed of burning...
- Pentium 4, 3GHz processor
- 1 GB of RAM (2x512MB)
- 2 PATA Western Digital Hard drives 5400 RPM (probably Ultra ATA 100)
- Samsung DVD +/- RW burner (IDE, can burn DVD-R at max. 16X)
- RiData DVD-R 8X media (not the new cheaper one)
- Windows 2000 Pro w/ SP4.
- Using Sonic's RecordNow burning software v7.x
I think this should cover all the relevant details about my PC.
Is it the media? burning software? bad burner? or what???
I'd appreciate it if one of you experts can give some insight as to why I am not getting the speed that I would like.
Thanks.
